Organization background
Sphoorti is a non-profit organization working for the orphaned, abandoned,
destitute and other vulnerable children in the Medchal
district near HYderabad, India.
They run 3 orphanages, two for boys & one for girls, that provide
housing, education and health care to 250 children.
In addition, with the support of corporate sponsors,
they fund the education of 200 children who do not reside at
the orphanage.
Project background
Sphoorti Foundation was allocated 3
acres of land by the Govt of Telengana on the outskirts of
Hyderabad and are in the process of constructing
an enclosed compound on this land.
They plan to have dorms, staff rooms, a school and other facilities
around a central area.
They expect to complete the entire compound in 5 — 10 years.
Dorm rooms are sized at 450 sqft and accomodate 8 children.
Construction costs per sqft range from Rs 1200 (in 2015) to Rs 1700 (in 2020).
GKF contributions to Sphoorti
- 2015: Funding for one room of a dorm
- 2019: Funding for 3 rooms (one dormroom each for boys and girls and a wellness room for girls)
- 2020,2021: Funding for operating costs of organization
