Organization background

Established in 2013, Soulfree's mission is to improve the quality of life for people living with spinal cord injuries (PwSCI) by providing them with access to rehabilitation facilities, education, employment, entrepreneurship, sports and social reintegration. They carry out awareness and advocacy initiatives; provide outreach and holistic rehabilitation services to individuals living below the poverty line. Their outreach activities include monthly stipend programs; independent living programs and donations of medical supplies or other necessary items.
Project background

Soulfree's Integrated Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation (INSPIRE) Center offers individualized, holistic treatment programs, with the goal of helping every PwSCI reintegrate into society so they may lead dignified and independent lives. The 20,000 sqft building, provided by the Government of Tamil Nadu, redesigned to be wheelchair accessible, can accommodate up to 50 residents at a time. Each resident is allowed to have one personal caregiver accompany them during their stay at the Center.

Soulfree's holistic rehabilitation services include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy, ultrasound, X-Ray, VAC Therapy unit (to heal bedsore wounds), magnetotherapy, urodynamic, dental, psychological counseling, consultation and diagnosis. They also provide Ayurveda, Siddha & Homeopathy services and vocational training.
