Organization background
Sevalaya is charitable organization in India, engaged in activities for the welfare of the poor and the deprived. It runs a destitute children's Home, and a free unaided school for the children at the destitute home and the surrounding villages; a free medical center; a free craft center; a free library; a goshala to shelter dry and milk yielding cows; and, an old age home for destitute senior citizens. In addition, they help the neighbouring community by conducting self-help classes (sewing, computer) and have a mobile library that goes to the villages and loans books to people. It has been operating since 1988.

Project background
The school has classes from pre-KG to Class XII. There are about 1000 students (around 160 children come from the orphanage and around 800 students come from surrounding villages). They charge no fees and even provide text books, stationery and uniforms for free. In addition, the 160 children in the orphanage are also provided food and lodging. There are 40 full-time teachers and 2 non-teaching staff.

Project description
The project is to help fund the operation of the school. GKF picked up about 85% of the monthly salary expenditure for the school.
