Organization background
Sri Poorna Mahameru Trust (SPMT) was established in 1996 in Chennai,
India for the purpose of serving the elderly who come from impoverished
backgrounds. The residential home provides free accommodation,
medical and funeral services.
SPMT also provides meals and basic medical services to the local populace.
Educational assistance is also provided to the children of staff members
and to needy members of the public on a case by case basis.
Project background
The facility is located on a 3,600 sq ft plot of land and on average,
houses around 35-40 residents along with a 3 bed medical ward.
SPMT has also conducted the last rites for approximately 250-300 residents.
The free food program feeds over 200 people everyday, not including
large celebrations. 15 people serve as support staff to run the
home alongside 3-4 volunteers.
