Organization background

PRC is a non-profit parent cooperative dedicated to providing a wide range of affordable educational and social opportunities to the community's families. Port Washington is an affluent town on the North Shore of Long Island. However it has a significant low-income population, including many Latin American immigrant families who are educationally disadvantaged and for whom English is a second language. Children from these families, have little or no access to school-readiness programs and lack the language, learning and social skills needed to succeed in kindergarten. For many children whose families speak English as a second language, building English language skills is critical to their success. Each year there are approximately 100 children and their families enrolled in the Outreach Program which operates two 17-week semesters each year.

Project background

PRC's Outreach Program tries to help these disadvantaged families develop their educational and social skills in order to succeed. The Outreach Program is composed of four parts:
