- Location : Tamil Nadu, India
- Community Served: Children
- Focus: Social Assistance
Organization background
Muthuswamy Educational Trust runs the Hindu Higher Secondary High School
in the Tenkasi District of Tamil Nadu.
Founded in 1956 by Mr. Narasimha Iyer (who was the sole teacher of the school
till 1958, teaching children in a hut), the school has since expanded to
become a Higher Secondary School with 1,500 students,
out of which 65% of students are girls.
Project background
Students who attend this school come from impoverished backgrounds.
Most of these children’s parents are daily wage laborers and,
therefore, cannot afford expensive school fees.
The school provides free transportation for children up to Grade 8,
giving children who live further away the means to come to school.
Students from grades 1 to 8 are not charged fees and students from
grades 9 to 12 are charged nominal fees. Government aid is limited.
GKF contributions to MET
- 2022-2024: Funding for staff salaries and student scholarships.
