Lords Education and Health Society
Organization background

Lords Education and Health Society (LEHS), founded in 2003, has been running a program called WISH (Wadhwani Initiative for Sustainable Health), as a public-private partnership with the Indian government, since 2014. The objective of the program is to build an equitable, innovation-led healthcare system that puts quality healthcare within easy reach of the poor.

The WISH program is run at clinics owned by the Indian government, which provide free primary health care to the poor. The infrastructure, staff salary and medicines at these clinics are provided by the government. The WISH program runs in parallel with the government's telemedicine initiative, eSanjivani, to bring digital healthcare to rural areas. As part of the WISH program, technological solutions such as the development of a vending machine model to dispense medicines are designed to complement the Indian government's telemedicine initiative. After modernizing rural clinics, WISH educates the local community to take over the clinic after 3-5 years.

WISH manages over 500 clinics in 5 states with large populations and poor health indicators. Of the 500+ clinics that WISH helps operate, 66 have been modernized (Digital Health and Wellness Centers) and WISH is looking to do this with more clinics.

Project background

Due to COVID-19, LEHS has pivoted to helping government clinics set up isolation wards, contract tracing and screening of COVID symptoms. They have begun outreach activities at their clinics in Delhi and are looking to introduce technology to clinics. They also provide Personal Protection Kits (PPE) to frontline service providers.
