Organization background
Hope Charitable Foundation runs a school in Ambattur for 65 children
and an orphanage in Aminjikarai for 50 developmentally disabled children
in Chennai, India. They provide vocational & self-reliance training
to children aged 14+ years old and run early intervention training
programs for children aged 0-6 years old.
They also assist people with various disabilities navigate through
the plethora of government services for which they may qualify.
Their Mother Access Health Livelihood Advocacy (MAHLA) program helps
mothers of disabled children understand their government support options,
advocate for their children and support the family to ensure that
the child is set for future success.
Hope's program is especially important because it is the
only school in the Ambattur area for the developmentally delayed.
They estimate there are approximately 450 developmentally
challenged children in the area.
Project Background
In order to be able to accommodate more children, they are in the
process of constructing a new building to accommodate 350
developmentally challenged children.
Their setup includes a
van/bus to take the children for excursions, sports meets,
outing, hospital etc.
All of their remedial services are provided by a number of educators
and therapists
on their staff.
