Children's Hope India
Organization background

Children’s Hope India (CHI) is a US-based organization that works with local partners in India to improve the lives of impoverished children. They run a number of programs across India related to providing children nutritious lunches to encourage school attendance; medical care; health & hygiene education; vocational training programs; computer training; online learning opportunities; supporting residential homes for at-risk children and vision care.

Project background

With government-mandated school closures due to COVID-19, the most economically-disadvantaged children were unable to access online learning opportunities due to a lack of technological infrastructure and know-how. Consequently, in 2020, CHI began the Education Uninterrupted Program as a means to connect these children to remote learning. During the initial stages of using this technological infrastructure, both teachers and students found the transition to remote learning to be a frustrating and challenging experience. To make the learning experience better, teachers need to be provided with training to better leverage the technological infrastructure. At the same time, while technology is essential to delivering education to students out of school, it is equally powerful in equipping students for successful participation in the economy. Consequently, lessons also have to be designed so they equip students and teachers with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the digital world.
