Organization background
For the past 40 years, Amar Seva Sangam (Amar Seva) has provided specialized services and
implemented several programs aimed at empowering rural & disadvantaged disabled
individuals in the Tenkasi District in Tamil Nadu, India. Services and programs include:
- Free residential home for differently abled children
- In-person and virtual early intervention programs, including the provision of a daycare for children with autism, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, intellectual disabilities
- Vocational training programs for adults and children over the age of 14 years old
- Creation and distribution of free medical devices and testing units
- Referral services
- Accessible spaces to learn, in partnership with local colleges, to conduct diploma, degree and post-grad courses
- Creating self-help groups and respite centers for differently abled individuals in villages
Project Background
Amar Seva offers vocational training, under the organization's Disabled Youth Trainees Scheme,
to ensure they can take care of themselves once they leave the campus.
Their vocational training programs include computer training; tailoring;
typewriting (both in English and Tamil); making and binding notebooks; making soft toys;
embroidery; cane/wire knitting and many other handicrafts.
